Our Services

Export/Import Compliance

India exporters must follow stringent regulations and customer requirements of the countries to which they export food products, spices and ingredients. These countries often revise or modernize regulatory laws in light of new findings, foodborne illness, or emerging pathogenic organisms. TAG has the expertise and resources to assist India exporters in food safety efforts and domestic and foreign standards and regulatory compliance.

We can assist in or act as liaison for:

United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

In the US, the FDA inspects imported foods at the border or port of entry, and the FDA will refuse imports with pathogenic contamination or other issues. TAG can assist you with:

  • Import regulation. Preventive program and FSVP development, assessment and/or training.
  • The Voluntary Qualified Importer Program (VQIP) provides for expedited import entry of food, in most cases requiring no manual review and release in minutes!
  • Import alert/refusals. FDA follow-up and/or corrective action recommendations for Detention Without Physical Examination (DWPE), import refusals, or other border issues.
  • 483s and warning letters. We can provide recommendations for corrective action and assistance with the required FDA response
  • Liaison. With experts who have been on both the industry and government sides – including a former FDA executive at the helm of TAG, our liaison services help to smooth and mediate communication between exporters and government agencies.

Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)

The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) set out certain import requirements, such as licensing, preventive controls and traceability that apply to most food commodities; certain foods (such as fish and seafood products) also have specific requirements related to grades or standards.

  • Licensing. Before any food product can be imported into Canada, the CFIA requires that food and ingredient importers obtain a license to import and ensure the food meets all the food safety requirements to which domestic foods are held. TAG can assist with licensing and document and program reviews for compliance.
  • Liaison. With experts who have been on both the industry and government sides – including a former CFIA executive in our TAG leadership, our liaison services help to smooth and mediate communication between exporters and government agencies.

Global

  • European Union. Importing food products into the EU involves a number of requirements and documents. TAG can help you navigate customs procedures, and ensure compliance with EU regulations such as the Single Administrative Document (SAD) and Entry Summary Declaration (ENS).
  • Middle East. Importing to the Middle East can require extensive documentation from the commercial invoice and certificate of origin to product-specific certifications or approvals, depending on the goods and the destination country.  TAG can help.
  • GFSI. TAG works extensively with food producer preparation for global standards audits, including that of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI); and we understand the vast diversity of foreign country food safety regulation and assist in compliance
